let's go back to the early 90s. back to where shoegaze ruled the world. back to where big guitar walls protected fragile lyrics from bursting. back to where the band blind mr. jones formed in marlow, england. they released their brilliant ep "eyes wide" in 1992 and unfortunately broke up two years later after releasing their second lp "tatooine" (the first lp "stereo musicale" was released in 1992). the bands sound was typicall for that era: big guitars, tender melodies and simple but fragile lyrics! enjoy it...

individualistic. uncommon. experimental instuments. insane. virtually slightly potty...

micachus ingredients contain a great deal of fair and beautiful frisky bevelled melodies. a special kind of experimental groove produced by using more than else rotten instuments. the name micachu and the shapes holds the idea of a young musician from london named mica levi, supported by not less talented combatants than herself. they all are bubbling over with crooked ideas and seem to be a live wire. as well as their sound, that evolves a little more towards pop without denying her lofi-attitude and minimal punk radixes. all of you who are going to view arcade fire in berlin at the end of august are able to know the true promise of a brilliant supporting act. Hopefully in munich too!

are you carsick? well, this chinese 3-piece obviously is, according to their bandname "carsick cars". hailing from bejing, they start out to spread their energetic and experimental rock throug the wide wide indie world. though the songs are full of guitar walls, they comprise of catchy refrains and melodies you'll surely love. you can stream 3 songs of their second lp "you can listen, you can talk", which was released on the 26th of june 2009 here. and if you are familiar with the chinese language you could also try out this page. actually, i'm not ;-).
by the way, if anybody out there knows what "zhongnanhai" means, leave a comment... here are carsick cars with zhongnanhai recorded live, so you might get an impression of the bands power.

smorgasbord!

what a strange composition of rock, synth, electro, trance, epic rock, wave...

today i discovered secret circuits, a 4-piece band from the big isle, great britain. the song "this town" of the corresponding ep is a epic song, with rock influences and a big synth refrain. while listening to the other songs on the bands myspace site, i got quite dissapointed. the quality of the other songs drops off rapidly. an expection is the ballad "in ending (part 1 & 2)" which finally made me confident, that the following lp could be worth a further listen. well let's hope and see. in the meantime we should enjoy "this town". grap it from here.

relax norway, relax!!!

i recently listened to the new album "New Kind Of Orchide" of norwegian based 4 piece psychedelics Rancho Relaxo. their 6th cd is a perfect mixture of shoegazing guitars, creaping beats and floating lyrics. although it's their 6th release, i've never heard of this band so far. too ignorrant? i don't know, but listening to the whole album at once is like sitting in the train, relaxing, looking out of the big dirty window, the landscape is flashing by, your eyes almost closed and then, suddenly, there is this voice anouncing the next station...this moment where you get reanimated of your numbness... the title track "new kind of orchide" of the album is such a moment... the song is accompanied by big dark organs... love it. other highlights are "wisdom blackout" or "i love you so"...

even though, the albums songs don't vary too much, except those train-announces, it is a great dark shoegaze album with this scandinavian influences and a soft touch of folk rock... so lay back, relax and think of the train as you listen to the music of Rancho Relaxo... what a name ;-)

15 years went by since the birth of the mp3 format. happy birthday!
The format has been developed since 1982 under the administration of Prof. Musman of the Fraunhofer Institut Erlangen. The development was intended to compress audio files and therefore to save discspace by filtering every tone which isn't hearable for human ears.
