advent advent #03 a borrowed dream in colour

bandscheibenrecords is back in advent season again, according to a long standing tradition...

our list starts with none other than beloved i dream in colour, a highly talented essex-gang of four. this time a personal piece of jewelry from their unbelievable piano back catalogue, an encore song which their lead singer richard judge performed in such an intensive way during their last european tour in different cities. full off a contemplative, calm, irenic and sublime atmosphere, anyway a little bit of stirring. this seems perfectely for such a december opening. let`s have the blues again these days, where we all may have some kind of special borrowed dreams...

9th anniversary flashback

12/10/2003.

somewhere among an industrial district of north-east in munich. as it was a red-letter day. no doubt forevermore. it`s time for some nostalgic mental flashback.

exactly nine years to the day ago something mind-blowing and utterly life-changing has entered my personal appreciation of music, art, devotion, disposition and native vocation. furthermore this crucial moment of occasion prompted me to see things from a different perspective and raise my awareness of an enduring meaningfulness of art, in that case in connection with music.

a unforgotten unique vibe to this day: extremely noisy. barefaced, faithfully, but yet insurgent. anywise kind of magical and not of this world. on the one hand matchless vibrant. thrilling and hypnotizing. (`intro+ bulletproof cupid`, `allergic`, both had all that formerly unique and spellbound latent vitality). on the other hand depressing, kind of disturbing, fragile and at the same time fair and beautiful (`centrefolds`, with all the hidden subliminal unselfconscious fractured inner core of beauty). quite honestly: an emotional turmoil. since then i never had feelings in such a manner again. the amount makes the poison. an overkill even for a "placebo".

sheer distinctive structures

`the structures`

in the blood, in the ghost winds blow
in the rank, in the silent rest
in the saint and the sickness, love
i do not
i do not want it
and what was your intent?

did you find what you had left?
in the stars, in the blood we know

in our hearts, in a golden dream
in the car, in the city wall
we will not be found
in light upon the floor

did we find this world in love?

by known moon

for the first time!...
...bandscheibenrecords borrows extrinsic verbal expressions - except foreign quotable lyrics. under these circumstances special thanks go to our widely read and tireless independent music blog pioneers. their verbal completely adequate structures hit the bulls`s-eye in many respects - truer words have never been spoken, at least pertaining to this circumstance and pitch in particular. chapeau soulmates, worldclass! as brilliant as the song pearl itself...

"in a world made up of conservatives and liberals ‘the structures’ is a blast from the monster raving loony party. (...) this sort of endeavour, especially so when songs like ‘the structures’ has a pretty core but is so surrounded by atmospheric upheaval. it skids into hazy distortion on occasion but just as things appear to be falling apart (it) reigns it all back to form neat little sonic patterns" (mp3hugger.com)

open your eyes to see tv-set in blue
i've been waiting for you to smile, i'm the great head freezin'
wintertime comes summer, you are why it's happenin', to me

sugar babe, sugar babe do it to me
do me babe, do me babe can't you see me?
i'm sugar now, sugar now do it to me
take me babe, take me babe can't you see me?

i feel the morning slip in sights into your mirror

hey, back to music.
so cool to feel chilly! with an arcane and frowning presence. dark horses, a leather clad neo rock uk 5-piece band fronted by swedish siren lisa elle, rule their business indeed. having released their new single `radio`, a masterly confusion of some warm drone flowing guitar buzz and sighing vocals as eligible forerunner for a probably noteable debut lp `black music`, emerging anytime during autumn this year.

a reincarnation of an ultra-harmonical brute bliss

 `all the distant ships`

it passed through me into you
used our blood as the glue
their hands pulled me into the earth
where i laid until they figured my worth
then they moved on to you
said that we would have to do
the words fell from my mouth
and stained our new ground
and i called out to you
but you told me you were through
and we'd meet again once the voices were gone

i woke up near the sea
with the sky bruised over scrap metal ground
and all the distant ships were sinking
and i wondered how you were

and as the sun burned my skin
iwatched you swimming
and as your body drifted in
i sat and told you everything
about how i climbed on everything that they used to tear us on down
and all of the air we breathed just helped me choke a little more down
now this is where we are

the sky is spinning around, around
we'll grind our teeth from the sound, the sound
we'll watch the spectators drown, oh, they'll drown
while i dig through the bones of all this
and find all the things our heads missed
and strap them across my scraped fists
like using a crane to scratch an itch
one that never goes away

and all of the world will drink as the clouds come pouring on down
and we'll dream of distant things while they strap our legs to ground
'cause this is where we are
yeah, this is where we are

my regard!
in former times i wrote some lines on our blog surface by having dignified different work from a formidable usofa artist ben cooper, ingenius lyrical mastermind of `radical face`, more than adequate. but as it is indeed his unique music projects let us fall in love time and again.

without you i`m nothing indeed, but as time went by love is put on the back burner...

brilliant image-memorial whereas
`allergic` on stage in autumn 2003

london, april 2012.
for a couple of time one of london`s whilom spearhead of an ambivalent underground pop culture flashed up awhile. surely not as brilliant and soul-touching as is has been way too many years before but ways better than during their worst period in 2009/2010.

anyway as kind of a minimum consolation `without you i`m nothing` is back since a lack of 5 years indeed. a little bit faster than usually and lyrical not as brilliant and soul-touching as is has been ten years before, but at least much more delighful than all their bygone stuff among placebo`s worst and boring together live appearances the last couple of years. anyway let`s see what happens next to placeboworld in 2012...

none the less i`ve tried to pick out some highlights from their london homcoming show at end of april. without you i`m nothing seems one of them, indeed!

same with `black-eyed`. even if their previous passion and exploding emotions couldn`t achieved completely, nice to regard once again in this vestment.

giants to the core in singapore!

`we looked like giants`

WOW!
this sends nonstop pleasant showers down the spine! maybe death cab`s stage performance of lifetime! absolutely nothing has ever been experienced a higher energy level than `giants` below. maybe `transatlanticism` seems brilliant on stage, but nevertheless this unique rearranged monster is sounding like an epical revelation among its violative tough exterior. it`s all about the tiny details indeed...

an at the begining of march 2012 rearranged
instrumental interlude part on its own means a stand-out music art beyond doubt (they already did an extended version many times before but never ever in such an expressive way i`m thinking of this band - maybe just as unique rarity for those people in asia-pacific region). without interruption walla`s guitar weeps more ostensible than ever around the corner and chirrs with ben`s drums racing into an orgiastic drumming staccato at 1:30.

now pay attention! the best part is yet to come. it begins at about 1:52, while ben stands up in front of the crowd and leads himelf into incredible guitar-gazing concentric runout-soundscapes. walla, you lucky bastard! both man play their hearts out by commemorating all levels of their instruments`capacity and immense feedback effects. inconceiveable magical! nearly in some way kind of surreal already... `cause in one`s right mind this performing part actually has to be done by another band but not death cab at all. completely breathtaking and worth to memorable. shoegazing at its best. and indeed death cab were on stage and not an image of some kind of japanese genre-pioneers. for sure the best death cab soul-crushing live moment i`ve ever keep in mind so far. beyond any price. it finally sunk in again, hias! dcfc thrilled like they never did before...

music friends! here along the first minutes including ben leads himself into their new arranged instrumental break! he seems so deeply intrinsic soul-recovered again and in bloody brilliant emotional-aggressive mood. till the end you can hear walla`s creative genius as told above. so turn your fuckin´ volume up once more!

brooklyn`s scandinavian pop vibration

frankie rose spent a few years kicking around the brooklyn indiepop scene before striking out on her own path. she `s already left several bands behind. the vivian girls, dum dum girls, crystal stilts and her first solo record under the name frankie rose and the outs. it seemed pretty clear, that she was eventually destined for further projects. now as it were she is about making a new start once again.

as time flies ingredients modifies. the 60ies glimmers only rarely on her musical firmament. whilom volatile noise elements are completely canceled from her effect line-up. twang here and there. all over beloved 80ies disembarks an frankie`s nightstand. a disposition for c86 and the smiths foats around the corner. choirs of angels accompanies with frankie`s modulations. a reunion with veteran poppy sounds in the vein of the cure. a bass line, like a time machine, cleans the bottom of a dance hall up. intrinsically enchanting how thunder-hall drums add weight to little melodies. that kind of jangle-pop-mixture rings very suasive! hias, not only your musical feeling should run high...

london`s gloomy spirit of time: 2:54

2:54 / `creeping`

2:54, london`s sibling duo have started to build excitement again with moody and hypnotic shoegaze-punk-heavy tracks like `creeping` and `sugar` comprising huge live appearance. both sisters internalizes a life-long love of queens of the stone age and participate in addition soundtracks in a memorable vein of pj harvey and warpaint, the last one they already have shared stage time with.

the begining of `scarlet` reminding their affinity for the early-mid `90s decade like radiohead but in the end they are taking their influence from a much different side of the spectrum.

hannah and colette thurlow resurface with a new single `you’re early`. listen to brilliant eyeliner smeared all over their undercooled and at the same time meolodious soundscapes. we definitely need an album from these still unsigned london ladies as soon as possible. then catch 'em if you can...

10th anniversary moment of occasion

"shaped like hands"
by unkle stiltskin

lines in the sand
shaped like hands
to lift us up
on our broken legs
but it's not enough
and we lose our heads
dropped from the sky
it burned our eyes
made us think for ourselves at last
and take some steps
to put a knife in the past
need to change where we're going
and to drop the stones we're throwing
and move out of the world and watch the glass house crumble
and what remains
is the stuff that sticks around and dirties haloes
stopped to watch the rain
but we fell asleep and woke up near the window
i won't complain
we press our tongues to the pane
we laugh at the ones on the train
we beat them at their own game
headache, sunburn, nosebleed, your turn
tongue tied, shut down
yeah, there's enough to go around
so then, good luck
please don't give up
build them, burn them
and press them into little squares
as the world turned, we were dreaming about our brains
and how they made us think and twitch and look away
so we stepped back into the shoes we wore that day
and find we're better off now, no matter what they say
look into through window
of a pale run down car
with the wind in my eyes, there is a burn on my cheek
and a package in my arms
the world looks pretty blurry
my eyes are tired these days
the sun looks like butter on an infinite plane
and I wish it would melt away
okay, now
