beyond words...

i really have to revisit a trio from yorkshire, a band brother HiasSon mentioned during december 2008. well! when we`d saw sky larkin playing at the atomic cafe during november 2008, i had the chance to talk to katie after their short performance (at that time they were co-support). i asked her for a setlist - i was intense impressed by one or two songs from their set i didn´t know then - they didn`t have any, even more they didn`t have any acquirable sound carrier. ever since for considerable time i have been listening to a certain song. i `ll never lose sight of this special and magnificent one. queens of the stone age wrote a track named "I WAS A TEENAGE HAND MODEL". sky larkin did a remake with matchless bravery. a crystal clear instrumentation und a phenomenal & graceful voice let my heart beat on a higher level. a state of abeyance. what a coup!

Marry The Onettes

in the course of a forthcoming concert evening i spot some piece of jewelry named "Kicks". this brilliant ballad song is located on the DARE-EP by the swedish indiepop band THE MARY ONETTES.

the first piano notes makes the moment feel so lovely. that`s all about music. the begining voice with all its sadness might be quite simlilar to adam olenius in a way. if there is some more knocking and rattling, the song could be a shout out loud one. anyway fabulous. for the future the band release another ten track LP called ISLANDS.

i´m glad to have a chance to listen to their new material imbedded within one of their rare live shows in germany. an evening on november, 20th seems to be predestinated. as well as the location. a place mentioned GLORIA. in a blaze of glory.

Beyond any guitar wall...

...there are musicians, who know all about performing magic songs, which appear from nowhere. Justin Vernon, a brilliant north american musician, better known beneath his pseudonym Bon Iver, is such a phenomenon. I would like to introduce one of his songs, a very special one, i have been listening oftentimes. A song, that belongs more to snow-falling than sun-bathing. A Song, whose ingredients might complete concert halls become silent: calm. atrabilious. touching. invidious. A song, called Blood Bank.

Well I met you at the blood bank / We were looking at the bags / Wondering if any of the colors / Matched any of the names we knew on the tags...

Whether a blood bank is an ideal scene to get off with a woman?
Why not give a try.

Bird Automatic have finally arrived with their debut ep "not morning people". their repertoire contains predominant smooth indiepop imbedded into gleamy melody patterns. someplace in the vein of death cab for cutie. a fistful enjoyable tunes like everything in an instant & suburbs for example. Try them out or keep an eye on them!

Some compliments for...

Fjord Rowboat. This five piece band is like a little diamond in the shoegaze scene of Toronto. The band is playing together since Ocotber 2004 and they released their debut "Saved The Compliments For Morning" in 2007, which really knocked me over. The album starts with "Carried Away" a song that builds up a great atmosphere and explodes in the end. The next two ones are my favourite ones. "Can't See The Sun" and "Shootin the breeze" have this kind of stuff that you can't describe. I think its about the drums. They are so dominant, overlayed with this great shoegazing guitars and a wonderful voice. Every verse grows up in a dreary mood to burst in the refrain. This is the kind of music I wanted to listen to, for years. Longdrown songs alternate with more faster songs and the whole album consists of this previously described gloomy mood. Amazing!
Fjord Rowboat are now working on their second record and hopefully will release it in summer /fall this year. Hope to here from you soon! Fjord Rowboat are Kevin McKay (Drums), Ian McKay (Bass), Justin Grant (Guitar), Craig Gloster (Vocals, Keyboards) and Matt Collum (Guitar). Matt gave me "Cant't See The Sun" and "Shootin the Breeze" to post for. Here they are... Enjoy them and check for news on their homepage or on MySpace.

Heulende Glocken...

Melodietrunkener, betörender Gesang, sehnsüchtige Gitarrenlinien, ein sich zum Himmel erhebender Refrain, ein einziges entrücktes Schweben: "but we'll rise and fall just like the setting sun." Die schneidenden Gitarren des intensiven Wishing Stone, das wundervoll anrührende The Night Is Young und das kraftvolle Low Happening: "you listen to trash, but it's not rock'n'roll."
