Arcade Fire - We used to wait

a perfect song.

I used to write,
I used to write letters I used to sign my name
I used to sleep at night
Before the flashing lights settled deep in my brain

But by the time we met
By the time we met the times had already changed

lost in translation...

"free to live, last time
and you, you’re always
you’re wonderful, i wanted you
i do, i do, i do
free to go, i know
and you, you
city girl, you’re beautiful
i love you, i do, i do, i do"

(city girl, `03)

"my eager eyes came stumbling down
over this pristine view
my second-rate poetry
just is not enough to describe you
i'm scrambling 'round the floor

looking for some
fresh metaphor
all the words to describe this just do not exist
i feel better than ever before
i`m breathless and speechless
but still, there is so much to say
in words with one syllable"

(breathless, `93)

"turn my head into sou
nd
i don't know when i la
y down on the ground
you will find the (way it) hurts to love
never cared and the
world turned hearts to love
you will see, oh now, oh the way i do"

(sometimes, `91)
"we run through the streets
that we know so well
and the houses hide so much
we're in the half light
none of us can tell

they hi
de the ocean in a shell
the ocean in a shell
our heads are just houses
without enough windows
they say you hear human voices
but they only echo"

(half light I,`10)

"you and i we head back east
to find a town where we c
an live
even in the half light

we can see that something's gotta give
when we watched the ma
rkets crash
the promises we made were
torn
then my parents sent for me
from out West where i was born
some people say, they've already lost
but they're afraid to pay the cost for what we've lost
pay th
e cost for what we've lost"

(half light II - no celebration, `10)

die slow continued...

"searching in, in an empty room
something I would never do
i'm alone again
when I'm by myself
i can be myself
when my life is calm
but I don't know when
you're burning out, you're black and gray
you're burning out, you're black and gray
something I would never say"
(emty room, `10)

"get through this night
there are no 2nd chances
this time i might
to ask the sea for answers"

"they
heard me singing and the told me to stop
quit these pretentiou
s things and just punch the clock
these days my life, i feel i t has no purpose
but late at night the feelings swim to the surface"

(sprawl II-mountains beyond mountains, `10)

"living in the sprawl
dead shopping malls rise like mo
untains beyond mountains
and there`s no end in sight
i need the darkness, someone please cut the lights"

"it`s the disease of the age
it`s the disease t hat we crave
alone at the end of the
rave
we catch the last bus home
corporate america wakes
coffee republic and cakes
we open the latch on the gate
of the hole that we call our home"

"maybe we`re victims of fate
remember when we`d celebrate
we`d drink and get high until late
and now we`re all alone
wedding bells ain`t gonna chime
with both of us guilty of crime
and both of us sentenced on time
and now we`re all alone"

New York...

There is amazing music in New York, can't believe it. Via freeIndie.com you can download some tracks of the New York based quintet Raven and Chimes. Don't ask me, why they call themselves Raven and Chimes, although their music is a little bit made up of chimes, ok, but why raven? So if anybody knows this, tell me. Interesting question, isn't it?
Ok, back to the important part of this post. They've released their debut "Reichenbach Falls" in 2007 and it sounds like -hm- a bit like Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade, but convince yourself with the great song "General Lafayette! You Are Not Alone" avalaible from freeIndie.com! There are more songs on freeIndie.com, so go there and download them... And as in every post, i propose you to check out the MySpace Page of the band.
