Ruhm und Ehre dem Gloria!

Regensburg, Gloria 19.12.2008 Auf hell erleuchteten Lettern strahlt einem an der Eingangspforte des altehrwürdigen Filmtheaters das Abendprogramm entgegen - S|U|B|L|I|M|E - ein Clubabend der besonderen Gütekategorie. Serviert wird dem quer geneigten Musikliebhaber erlesener Indiepop, Shoegaze & Elektronica. Betritt man nun das Innenareal, erfüllt einen unmittelbar das wohlwollende Gespür für das Außergewöhnliche dieser Veranstaltungreihe. Die Grundidee besteht offenbar darin, nicht nur momentan angesagte Indiemusik zu spielen, sondern auch die Wurzeln und Anfänge der heutigen Bands wieder hervorzuheben. So kommen verwandte Musikrichtungen mit auf den Plattenteller, allen voran Shoegaze, Dreampop, Noisepop und Subpop bis hin zu leichten elektronischen und wavigen Klängen. Getreu nach dem Motto listen and dance lauscht man einstweilen selten gewordenen, unbekannten und neuen Bandscheiben (Swervedriver, Joy Division, The Notwist, Deerhunter u.v.m.). Aufgehübscht wird das Ganze durch rare 60ies Filme auf einer Leinwand vor der stets zugenebelten Tanzfläche...Indiedisco Galore!

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart: Die 4 befinden sich zur Zeit auf großer England Tour bevor sie im Februar 2009 ihr selbst betiteltes Debüt Album veröffentlichen werden. Ein shoegazeig angehauchtes Must - Have für alle, die gerne auf einer Welle der Ironie reiten. Doing all the things that wouldn't make your parents proud bekräftigt dies doch sehr!

Mit Spannung erwarten wir auch das Debüt eines Trios aus Leeds, Sky Larkin. Nach einigen kostenlosen Hörproben und einem Live Gig im Atomic Cafe München, sind wir voll der Vorfreude auf ihre erste LP. Wer's noch nicht kennt. Hier der wirklich gelungene Song Molten als Gratishörpröbchen oben drauf. Molten!
Zusätzlich gibts hier die neue Single Beeline zur Verköstigung. Mahlzeit!


"Bereits" ihren zweiten Longplayer haben die Karlsruher Diego dieses Jahr veröffentlicht. Passend dazu auch der Titel der LP "Two". Düster und dennoch Poppig geht es dabei zu. die beiden Songs "Echoes" und "Dance" ragen auf einer sehr soliden Platte hervor. Überzeugt euch selbst durch einen Klick auf deren MySpace Seite und seht zu, dass ihr zu eines ihrer Clubkonzerte kommt, im März 2009 gibts dafür ja noch einige Möglichkeiten und ich denke es werden noch weitere Termine folgen. Ich werds auch tun, wenn irgendwie möglich.

2009 wird also mit Sicherheit kein schlechtes Jahr!

Don't Kill The Kills!

...because we really need them!

Munic! Muffathalle. 13.11.2008. 23:05 Uhr. Gerade haben uns The Kills aus der Halle gefegt. Kurz und schmerzlos. Noch vor einer Stunde standen wir wartend auf das, was folgen sollte da und schlürften unser Bier. Das hatten wir uns so nicht vorgestellt. Eine Band ohne wirklichem Schlagzeug. Kann die Live eigentlich toll werden?
Jetzt wissen wir die Antwort: Pustekuchen. Es geht auch ohne. Mit Drumcomputer, tollem Gitarrensound und etwas Rock N Roll Attitüde haben Alison Mosshart und Jamie Hince definitv alle Erwartungen übertroffen. Von Auf-dem-Boden-räkelnd bis zu Whiskey-trinkend zur Zugabe erscheinen. Alle Klischees wurden bedient. Das war ein dermaßen kühl kalkulierter Auftritt. Und das ist sowas von positiv gemeint. Den beiden konnte man die Lust am Rock N Roll, die Leidenschaft, die Erotik förmlich aus dem Gesicht strahlen sehen, dass es eine Freude war, ihrer - wenn auch sehr kurzen - Setlist zu lauschen. Danke dafür. Danke für dieses tolle Live Erlebnis. Auf ein Wiedersehen The Kills! U R Fever !

Storming Indiepop from Seattle, Washington...

München, Muffathalle 21.11.2008 Vier amerikanische Musiker betreten um halb zehn die Bühne und bieten dem ausverkauften Saal via 90-minütigem Set eine sehr ordentliche musikalische Reise quer durch ihre Schaffensperiode. Im Fokus der Darbietung von Death Cab For Cutie steht natürlich der herausragende Sänger und Gitarrist Benjamin Gibbard, dem - im Vergleich zu den nicht weniger energischen Bandmitstreitern - während des gesamten Konzerts kaum eine Verschnaufpause zusteht. Egal ob an seinem Saiteninstrument oder am Piano, vereint er die Passion des musikschaffenden Künstlers gepaart mit unübertriebener Natürlichkeit par excellence. Gerade in Momenten wie dem von der Menge bestens bekanntem akustischen "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" hängen die Konzertbesucher dem smarten Ami-Burschen sprichwörtlich an den Lippen. Das am Klavier getragenere "Summer Skin" verdeutlicht einmal mehr die einmaligen Gesangsqualitäten Gibbards`. Bei der epischen Single "I Will Possess Your Heart des aktuellen Longplayers Narrow Stairs gibt der temperamentvolle Bassist Nick Harmer minutenlang den Ton an, ehe der sich aufbauende Instrumentalteil durch Gibbards Stimme erlöst wird. Chris Walla, der Dritte im Bunde, bedient neben seinem Gitarrenspiel mitunter ein am Mikro angebrachtes Mini-Keyboard zur Untermalung besonderer Momente. Er steht oftmals minutenlang nahezu apathisch lässig nur im Raum und blickt mit einer Coolness, die seinesgleichen sucht, über die glückliche Menge hinweg. Bliebe noch der Drummer Jason McGerr, dessen wohl markantester Auftritt erst gegen Ende eines gelungenen Abends folgt. In "Transatlanticism", der letzten und wohl impossantesten der insgesamt vier Zugaben, prügelt sich Jason McGerr in ein orgiastisches Trommelstakato, während seine restlichen Musikerkollegen die Auslastungsgrade ihrer Gitarren zelebrieren. In diesem gefühlten Durcheinender schreit Gibbard im Gewand der gewaltigen Rückkopplungseffekte dem aufgebrachtem Publikum seine letzten Lyrics entgegen. Immer und immer wieder. "So Come on, So Come On"!

Gedichte!? Langeweile! Von wegen!

09.11.08 + Sonntag + 20Uhr + München + SubsTanz + etwas deutsche Sprache = Der Beginn eines nahezu musikfreien, dennoch sehr gelungenem Abends.

Wovon ich spreche? Zum 120 mal fand gestern der Poetry Slam in Münchens Bar SubsTanz statt. Proppevoll. Eine lange Schlange hatte sich schon vorm eher unscheinbar wirkendem Club an der U-Bahn Haltestelle Poccistrasse gebildet. Und das alles für ein paar Zeilen Sprache? Weit gefehlt. Was hier stattfindet gebührt wirklich höchsten Respekt. Europas größter Poetry Slam findet 1x monatlich im SubsTanz Club statt und das hats wirklich in sich. Gewonnen hat diesmal Alex Burkhard, der seinem "Scheiß Tag" mehrmals "high five" geben musste und von seinem eigenen Kind autoritär erzogen wird.
Wer denn nun wirklich gewonnen hat, war dabei schon fast Nebensache. Ein 3 stündiger Abend ging mit 400 grinsenden Gesichtern und 800 klatschenden Händen zu Ende. Was die beiden Moderatoren Ko Bylanzky und Rayl Patzak seit Februar 1996 da so auf die Bühne stellen hats auch auf jeden Fall verdient.
Es wechselten sich Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten ab, es gaben sich Lokalmatadoren und Gäste aus aller Welt ( unter anderem war gestern auch der aktuelle Poetry Slam Weltmeister Danny Sherrard, der wohl das ein oder andere "Augustiner" schon inne hatte ;-) dabei ) das Mikro in die Hand, das Publikum entschied über die Sieger und die Vortragenden von denen manche sicher auch das Zeug zu richtig guten Stand Up Comedians haben, hatten jede Menge Spaß an der Sache. ...of the Shout Out Louds. I think this is going to be a kind fo obituary for the wonderful Shout Out Louds. Anybody who doesn't know them, just a few facts:

So, as you see, this band are not newcomers anymore. This post has to be seen as a short apprecitation for this great band. Great lyrics and great songs, combined with a wonderful live perfomance (have seen them in the Atomic Cafe Munic (2005) and in Salzburg (2007)) and the mixture of all kind of instruments lifted them into the top 3 bands of my personal best-bands-list.

Their debut Howl Howl Gaff Gaff is full of songs, that have the potential to fill dancefloors in indie pop clubs or to listen to it after a night full of alcohol, to come back to real life. Well, you might know Please, Please Please, one of their greatest hits, well, maybe Tonight I Have To Leave It, from their second album Our Ill Wills, is more known, just because it was in the radio charts in Germany and Austria...

Our Ill Wills, is the kind of album that you want to listen to, when you finished work, or beeing totally damished after a very hard day. More quiet sounds with eaven more instruments and more filed songs that are going straight to your heart and back again.
They are now on tour with Peter, Bjorn and John in Brazil, I think to promote their second album. Hope their are going back to studio soon, to produce another great album...
Until their comeback, we have to listen to those wonderful two albums and satisfy our apetite for more Shout Out Louds songs with some even not worse remixes like this one... (The Comeback)

Ohr und Gespühr: aus tralien...

Getreu nach dem etwaigen Motto "globale indiepopmusikalische Aspekte" verschlägt es den geneigten musikliebhaber einmal mehr fernab europäischer Breitengrade richtung südöstliche geographien der weltkugel. Tatort: brisbane. Zur schau stellende: kate cooper (guitar, vocals) & damon cox (drums, vocals), die in einem australischen plattenladen musikalisch zusammenfanden. Zusammen musizieren sie unter dem bandnamen "An Horse" eine bezaubernd unbeschwerte indiepopmixtur mit einem schuss sanfter nachdenklichkeit. Wem die beiden ami-zwillinge Tegan & Sara gewogen waren, dürfte sich auch bei kate und damon äusserst aufgehoben fühlen, waren beide nicht zuletzt gemeinsam auf tour. Ihre debüt lp "Rearranged Beds" wird demnächst via ihrem australischem label "mom and pop" über die ladentische gehen. Auf der im frühjahr 2008 vorgeschobenen ep "Not Really Scared" sei einmal mehr auf den schmissigen track "Warm Hands" hingewiesen. Definitiv unverzichtbar ist das sich in tempo und wachsender inbrunst steigernde "Little Lungs". Via MySpace gibt`s natürlich die eine oder andere fesche Indieperle der musikschaffenden obendrauf. Melodie ist eine Strategie!

Over again amiland: Britpop/Shoegaze as its pure plantation...

These five guys are based out of brooklyn, new york city. They have managed to create a truly infectious album. On their debut "Gone Faded", released last autumn 2007 , Soft struggles to give old school Britpop new life. All songs combines an enjoyable warmly voice. Their evident guitar dominant but never to untrusive sounds throwback to the shoegaze world of British rock. Songs like "Gone Faded", "Higher", "100 days" or "Ring On" heat up my mind and sneak almost unnoticeable in the auditory canals. If you're looking for a flashback to '80s Britrock or '90s shoegaze, you should attend to these musicians more than a few minutes. For Example here...

Pay attention, the ultimate perfection of noise pop...

...further on todays fishbowl: The Early Years. For the most part still unfamous but further an excellent one from london. Formed in 2004, the juvenescent trio stands for psychodelic beats, acrid acoustic feedback and harmonical shoegazed melodies. The single outcome "all ones & zeros" opens furiously their self-titled lp "The Early Years". Guitar streams, which loses themselves in outer space spacious and high in effects. Bass lines, which defines the spheric scenery only as a tall whole. Melancholia in its most beautiful art presentation of music. Please take a quick look at their MySpace page and enjoy their amazing work to the full. Ladies and gentleman, we are floating in space!

Anti-Anti indeed !

Snowden is an indie quartet based out of atlanta. In 2006 jade tree records signed figurehead Jordan Jeffares and the other band members and released their debut album "Anti-Anti." Here someone suffers again. And he jingles so hopeless, as he strikes with his head against the wall while he`s singing. Once again the guitar and drums always drive on the songs vibrant. Snowden presents a fascinating mish-mash of indie rock, dance-floor beats and shoegaze borrowings. Wether with the bittersweet track "Black-Eyes" or with the cranky pulsative and together innocent blackly "Stop Your Bleeding": Every now and then you have the feeling, radiohead meets clap your hands say yeah and themselves meets arcade fire again. One`s tone labyrinth joined the other one`s imploring straightness. Altogether a dolefully fine sound creation. Album number two can’t come quick enough!

Our problems are just going to reappear again...

When you hear the name and the music of I Was A Cub Scout, there`s no need to think about a huge band. No, rather it`s about two very young musicians - Todd Mariott (vocals, guitar and Synthie) and William Bowermann (drums) from long bennington and collingham, england, which delivers some emotional delightful sounds. At first sight their debut lp "I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope" sounds a little bit fragile and not like these typical ones from england filled with hype and brightness. Anyway, it contains catchy volumes (e.g. the veritable hitsingle "Pink Squares") as well, but rather this is an album, that comes along with somebody. In the car, when the rain falls down on someone, before bedtime after an exhausting day, with friends or during a fine dinner. I recommend you warmly to listen to their dumpish lyrics ( "...don`t be pulled down/do not look back/maybe tings are gonna change/keep your chin up/try to hold your smile/maybe we`ll see better days...").

But some story draws to a faster close you may even think. In february 2008 I Was A Cub Scout have published their debut album yet, there`s no room for hope currently. On their MySpace page Will and Todd announced the band won`t continue any longer. After a uk-tour they split in June 2008. What a crying shame! Absolutely!

How does it feel to be pure at heart?

Is it very painfull? Maybe The Pains of beeing pure at heart from New York can answer this question? Man, this band really catched me. What an incredible sound. Dreamy, melancholic melodies with guitar walls, great lyrics and vocals that reminds me about love, rebellion and a lot of pain.

The bands career started at the birthday party of Peggy. Peggy (vocals, keyboard), Kip,(guitar, vocals) Alex(bass) and Kurt(drums) formed to play at her Party. And thank god, that this was a lot of fun for them and they continued playing music. You don't eaven have to hear the songs to know that this band has to be great. "Doing the things that wouldn't make your parents proud", "This love is fucking right", "Orchard of my eyes" and so on are song titles that say everything. This band combines love, pain rebellion, guitars, vocals and gives us music that really catches our hearts and don't lay them to rest. Come on, check it out! You can download several songs from theire MySpace Page and listen to "This love is fucking right". and this great line of the song: "You are my sister and this love is fucking right!"
In September 2008 the band will come to Sweden to play some gigs and in early 2009 their debut should be release. So hopefully the four are shipping over the great lake and give us some pain and gigs in Germany.

Some kind...

...of Electronic in the air... Yes. Today its going to be electronic. I 'm talking about Headphone from Belgium. Well, actually Belgium is known for it's great electronic scene and this band is another great step for Belgium up to the olymp of electronic music! The band released their debut album "Ghostwriter" in May this year. It 's a great mixture of electronic and indie elements with great vocals. So, if you want to lay back after a hard day, listen to this great songs. I really recommend you to go to their Myspace Page and listen to the songs "Ghostwriter" and "She is electric". Wow, this are really the best electronic / low fi songs I heard for weeks, months or even years. The mixture of guitars, slow bass and the vocals of Ian Marian is so catchy and awesome that I could'nt stop listening to it the whole day - incredible! So give Ian Marian, Nico Steenkiste, Gerd van Mulders, Tom Barbier and John Goosens some attention and the possibility to creat more catchy songs and listen to their debut album.

The poorest band in Birmingham...

"We are fucking poor, give us stuff; food, equipment, money, your watch ... anything."

Well, maybe they are fucking poor, but I don't think this will last too long. Who I'm talking about? Telegramme from Birmingham. I found their song "Dance" on the awesome Summer Sampler - yes, another one - "A sketch for summer" from CatCutterRecords. You should download it! But back to the band. Today I listened to their MySpace Page. They say, that they are influenced by Interpol, CatPower, Radiohead, Elbow... just to mention a few. Indeed, their music is a great mixture of all of these influences and bands. Faye, Andrew, Christopher and Danny performing some great Indie ballads like the 2007 released "Hot Blues" but are also smashing their guitars into the ring and fighting with beats, guitars and the great vocals of Faye like it is in "Dance". What an amazing song. Fayes vocals reminds me a little bit of swedish artist Annika Norlin (listen to her SoloProject "Säkert" here or to her band "Hello Saferide").
So if the band carrys on with this mixture of ballads and smashing hits I don't think that they will stay as poor as they pretend to be. The only question that remains is, how poor are they right now?

Great moments from Great Britain!

Sonicflyer started out in the remote town of Barnaul in Southern Siberia, where brother / sister combo Yulia (vocals / lead guitar) and Dima (drums) spent the last few years writing, touring, and building up a strong local following. Frustrated by the absence of a music scene in Russia the pair moved to the UK and recruited Chris (rhythm guitar / keyboards) and Rye (bass / backing vocals) to complete a new London-based line up for the band. They released their first EP "Sun in my pocket" in 2008. The tones contains nice sunshiney, partial elegiac guitar dominated indierock together with magical warm voices. Their notes are pervaded with a moderate brise of melancholic elements. Fill your house with sand and wear some fitting beachwear while you listen. Please have a look at their MySpace page. You`ll find three other excellent tracks like "Novocaine", "tonight" or "overseas", which will never relinquish you anyway. Via last.fm you can download another song for free. Great!Britannia!

England! Newcastle! Kubichek!

Dieses Quartett (mittlerweile zum Trio reduziert) aus der englischen Fußballstadt Newcastle ist mir anno 2006 auf einer Popexkursion in München sozusagen in die Hände gefallen. Im ehemaligen Indieschuppen Prager Frühling (heute: Babalu) verriet mir ein wohlgesonnener Plattenaufleger den Indietempomaten "Night joy" eben jener sich im Jahre 2004 geformten Viererbande. Das lohenswerte Debütalbum "Not Enough Night" erschien Anfang 2007. Zu zackigem Indierock gesellen sich mit "Hope is possible" und "Start as we meant to" etwas sanftere, vor Melancholie nur so triefend zauberhafte Töne. Bravo!Kubichek!

Weezer is doing cool things...

Yes. Really. This idea is nice. Weezer invited fans to perform along with the band with whatever instrument they can play. They did amongst overs a cover of Radioheads "Creep". Here is the result. Amazing ;-)

This 4 piece band from Glasgow, Scotland is doing great Indie close to Shoegaze. On their MySpace Page the 4 boys are searching for a girl to add some "textural loveliness" to their songs. New York...

There is amazing music in New York, can't believe it. Via freeIndie.com you can download some tracks of the New York based quintet Raven and Chimes. Don't ask me, why they call themselves Raven and Chimes, although their music is a little bit made up of chimes, ok, but why raven? So if anybody knows this, tell me. Interesting question, isn't it?

Ok, back to the important part of this post. They've released their debut "Reichenbach Falls" in 2007 and it sounds like -hm- a bit like Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade, but convince yourself with the great song "General Lafayette! Diese ist am 20.Mai auf Nesna Records erschienen. Dazu gibts dann auch noch auf ihrer MySpace Seite alles zum kostenlosen Download. Ja ist das nicht fantastisch? Die Schweden halt. Absoluter Anspieltipp: "Where The Sky Is Blue". Echt feiner Song. Am Besten ist wohl, sich alles Songs in Ruhe selbst einzutrichtern und dann die EP zu ordern.

Ja, so heisst er. Nach seinem durchaus starken Solo Debut "Yours To Keep" gibts nun ein neues Solo Album mit dem spanischen Titel "Como Te Llama?". Es soll am 8. Juli auf Black Seal bzw. Rough Trade erscheinen. Vorab gibts dazu den Song "GfC" auf seiner MySpace Seite zum Hören. Und ich muss sagen, klingt richtig fein, was er da hingezaubert hat. Hört selber mal rein. Ich denk mal da kann man sich aufs Album freuen...

Down-Underground from Brisbane...

...Kate Bradley and the goodbye Horses:

auch aus dem abertausende kilometerweit entfernten Kontinent Australien weht äusserst gelungener Down-Underground über das Meer. Gemeint ist damit die Liederkomponistin Kate Bradley aus Brisbane. Ihre erst EP "Don't You Choose Me" aus dem Jahre 2005 erntete in der Heimat anerkennenden Beifall. Bisweilen hat sich Kate, deren Stimme man gewisse Ähnlichkeiten mit Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and Kate Bush nachsagt, musikalische Verstärkung ins Boot geholt: Ryan Booker,Terry Dixon und Dave Gilbert von the goodbye Horses unterstützen die smarte Songwriterin tatkräftig. Die Musik wirkt poetisch erfrischend und ist im sanfteren Indiepop-Quadranten anzusiedeln. Mal leise, mal etwas mehr Anlauf wie im Track "Gold Body". Diesen gibt`s netterweise gratis. Hier entlang... Zwei weitere können auf MySpace angetestet werden. Die Bandscheibe "The Deeper The Sand", die im Monat Mai "2008 das Licht der Musikwelt erblicken soll, verspricht bestimmt tolle Lieder. Gute Frau!

Oh Kanada

This post is for all this wonderful Canadian Bands out there and thats why its written in English! So, where to start? Tonight I listend to Tokyo Police Club and thought about writing a post of them, how wonderful they are, where they come from and so on. I realized, that I listen to so much bands, which are from Canada. So I decided to write this few sentences to dedicate this post all those great Canadian bands out there.

So, starting with Tokyo Police Club. Its been one and a half year since their debut EP "A Lesson in Crime" that they released their album "Elephant Shell". I like this off beats this roughness in all of their songs. I think they lost something of that on the debut album. Well, some might say, that they grew up, that they developed their sound but I think that this is a pitty. Nevertheless, their debut is great! Songs like "Your English Is Good", "Juno", "In A Cave" and so on are amazing! Listen to their MySpace Site, to convince yourself!

The next band I want to mention is from Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Its Tegan and Sara. Wow. As I listend first to them I was mesmerized. I listend to "Back In Your Head". Their greatest song of their fifth album "The Con". Tegan and Sara are two twins and started making music in school. They do such an refreshing sound, but don't forget to be dumpish at the right moment. I think, that their fourth album "So Jealous" is their best one. But listen for yourself, for example here, or go to LastFM and search them.

Lets travel on and go to Montreal, Quebec. The Stars!, originally from Toronto, but decided to move to Montreal. This five piece band released their fourth album "In Our Bedroom After The War" in 2007. They play catchy indie pop with view electronic elements. The best songs on their new album are, for me, "The Night Starts Here", "Take Me To The Riot" and "Bitches In Tokyo". Take a breath of their sound on the bands MySpace Site and tell me if you like this kind of pop music.

Move on to Toronto and Broken Social Scene. It is a music project and currently includes nineteen members. Wheras all of them excluding founders Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning and drummer Justin Peroff play in other bands. Their music can be described as experimental indie rock with few folk elements, i think. They released three full albums and a lot of EPs. In my opinion, the best song on the latest album "Broken Social Scene" is "Swimmers". You should listen to it, for example here. Brendan Canning will release his SoloAlbum in July. You can also listen to his song "Hit the Wall", which is a great ripply guitar song with a lot of power at the bands MySpace Site.

My last post will be about Metric. The band was founded in New York but moved to Toronto later on. The bands sound can be described with only one word: Rock. Rock with a lot of speed, catchy refrains and a great vocalist. Emily Haines has the perfect voice to do some rock! They released three albums and three EPs so far. Their latest album is called "Grow Up and Blow Away" and it was released in 2007. You can listen to their 2003 released debut "Old World Underground, where are you now" at the bands homepage, here. You can also listen to a few songs on their MySpace Site and I recommend you to listen to "Monster Hospital", "Empty" and "Dead Disco".

Thats it. There are a lot good canadian bands out there and I only mentioned five of them. So move out and discover the canadian music scene! And let me know if there is something really good out there which I haven't recognized so far!

...Zigaretten, Bier, billiger Wein und ein gebrochenes Herz. So bezeichnet Chris Wigren zumindest selbst seine folkig angehauchte Musik. Ist schon fantastisch, was man mit seiner Stimme und einer Gitarre alles so anfangen kann. Wenn man bedenkt, dass Chris mit Metal begonnen hat, dann ist seine Musik nun umso erstaunlicher.

"I soon realized that this is my bag. This is what I will do. The music I play is so easy and uncomplicated in so many ways. All I need is my guitar and my voice. That’s it",
sagt er selber auf seiner Homepage. Und das passt. Chris kommt aus Schweden und erinnert mich nicht nur deswegen an Nervous Nellie, die mich damals in München als Vorband der Shout Out Louds dermaßen beeindruckt hatten.
Um wieder auf Chris Wigren zurückzukommen. Die Wandlung vom Metal zu dieser Musik nun, ist schon erstaunlich. Auf seiner MySpace Seite präsentiert er frisch nen neuen Song, der sich nahtlos an das Konzept der Vorgänger EPs anreiht. Gitarre und Gesang. Musikerherz was willst du mehr!

Eine Sache liegt mir noch am Herzen. Genauer gesagt ein Musikprojekt namens Cassettes won`t listen aus Brooklyn. Dahinter verbirgt sich der in New York weilende Multi-Instrumentalist und Produzent Jason Drake. Die durchaus lohnenswerte anno 2008 erschienene ep "Small Time Machine" ist via amazon.de orderbar. Maßvoll geschneiderte minimalistische Beats treffen auf einen angenehmen Indie-Background. Anspieltip: Paper Float. Darüberhinaus gibt`s auf ihrer MySpace Seite den Titel "Cut Your Hair" zu hören. Ein gelungenes Coverstück der 90-er Indie-Rocker Pavement. Smart!

Sag` brav hallo zu Seattle!

Ich gelange mittlerweise beinahe zu der Einsicht, dass die Musikschaffenden in den Staaten die besserere Independent-Ader haben. Zumindest für Seattle dürfte dieses Argument gelten. Das Epizentrum für "qualifizierte popmusikalische Schwingungen" sendet fast ununterbrochen seismische Klangwellen weit hinaus in globale O(hr)zeane. Eric Ellbogen, Gallionsfigur des amerikanischen Trios Say Hi, scheint dies möglicherweise geahnt zu haben. Jedenfalls hat er seine Zelte von Brooklyn nach eben jenem Ort an der Westküste verlegt. In ihren fünf großartigen Studioalben servieren Say Hi wohlwollenden, elektroinfizierten und von Off-Beats vorangetriebenen Indiepop. Taktil, temperiert, melodiös. A blandly Quake from Seattle!
